Vintage Onion Soup Burgers Recipe

During the 70s almost every cookout featured Vintage Onion Soup Burgers on the grill. These burgers are still delicious, and sometimes it’s nice to add a bit of nostalgia to our summer dinners. There are only three ingredients: ground beef, water, and dry onion soup mix. These burgers are juicy and flavorful. Make sure you use 80% lean or less ground beef; 90% or more will result in dry burgers.

Even though this is an old recipe, it is just as good as it was in the 70s. Make sure you offer all of the favorite condiments including relish, mustard, pickles, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, and thinly sliced raw onions. Serve these burgers on fresh buns and accompany them with

2 pounds ground beef, 80-85% fat, but no leaner

- Preheat grill to 400°.
- Mix the hamburger, soup mix, and water. Divide the mixture into 8 pieces and shape them into large, thin patties (they will shrink and plump up to the right size). With your thumb, make a hole in the middle of each patty.
- Grill, turning once on each side, until an instant read thermometer registers between 150 (medium) -165 (well). If using cheese, place a slice on each 2 or 3 minutes before reaching desired temperature.
- Remove from the grill, let sit 5 minutes, and place on buns with favorite condiments.
